REUNION 2022! Sunday, August 7 TODAY!

August 7th, 2022

Again this year, we struggle with the uncertainty of gathering in person for our traditional reunion. Our usual picnic area of Maud Williamson State Recreation Site has been reserved for those who want to meet for visiting unofficially.  However, the official Reunion will be an online Zoom program, presented by Elaine Warmington Wagner in Oregon, Al Ernest in North Carolina, Sylvia Fiscus and Marian Robertson in Colorado, and Brian Hewitt in Oregon.

Elaine Wagner will lead off the program with presenting her extensive research on Daniel Matheny, her g-g-g-g-grandfather, who came on the 1843 Great Migration wagon train and was the second owner of the Wheatland Ferry, which has been named for him ever since. Elaine will be sharing what she has found including Daniel’s Huguenot roots and his participation in the War of 1812, and more. She will also describe how family can become members of the National Society Daughters of the American Colonists.

Al Ernest will present his research which includes more than thirty generations of Matheny ancestors, and the lineages that connect our family to patriots in the American Revolution.  He will tell how family members can join the National Society Sons of the American Revolution (SAR).

Sylvia Fiscus and Marian Robertson from Colorado will share their and their mother’s and grandmother’s decades of experience in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the lineages they used.

Brian Hewitt will share his research on our Huguenot heritage in both the Matheny and the Hewitt lines, and the Huguenot Society of America.

Merrilee Johnson has volunteered to assist people to find in the family albums the more recent ancestors they need to connect themselves to the lineages presented by Elaine, Al, Sylvia and Marian, and Brian.

New Family Monument

Elaine will also be describing the Daniel Matheny monument she has arranged to be built next to the Wheatland Ferry monument. The marker will be placed by the National Society Daughters of the American Colonists. The executive director will be coming from Washington, D.C. to participate in the dedication of the monument at next year’s Reunion.  Elaine welcomes input on what family members would like to see included on the marker.

Please join us on Zoom at 12:30 PM on August 7 to learn and share with family. There will be a short HMC Family Association annual business meeting just before the presentation.
