Percy Family, by Kathy Percy (8/7/2011)

Sunday, August 7th, 2011

We had 4 years of interesting things happen in our family.

1979 – Our daughter got burned by hot oil (fondue) was in hospital from April 30 to May 30.

1980 – Our oldest son was killed in a farm accident.

1981 – Our house burned down.  The kids were looking at the picture albums 3-4 of them and were not burned and all of the baby books were found.  By the time the firemen got to our house, the roof was completely dented in and almost gone.

1982 – (A family joke) Josh our youngest son was born, a good thing.  The guys at work told him they would take his vacation.  All these things happened on my husband’s vacation.

Ants, by Mike Layman (8/7/11)

Sunday, August 7th, 2011

I remember when I was 4-5 years old in San Diego, Calif. (El Cajon),  my mom, Julie Jean, was talking to our neighbor across the fence when I started jumping up and down and screaming.

While my mom was talking and holding my hand, I was standing on a large ant hill.  There must have been thousands of ants.  To my shock my mom immediately pulled my pants down and was brushing all of the ants off of me.  What a shock.

Yvonne Heinrichs – Saved by a St. Bernard, by Frances Gilchrist (8-7-2011)

Sunday, August 7th, 2011

In the 1930s, we rented a room to a couple who were in Vaudeville, who also had a St. Bernard.  My sister Yvonne was abut two yrs. old.  Yvonne had a bad habit (if you can call it that at her age) of running out in the road.  Mother had run after her many times.  The day she ran out no one was around except her Sis (me, Frances, – 5 1/2 years old) and the St. Bernard.  The dog saw her run out into the street (which was a gravelled road) and al of a sudden the St. Bernard practically flew through the air and grabbed her by the seat of the pants.  If it weren’t for the St. Bernard, I wouldn’t have had a little sister all these years.  The car would never been able to stop on a gravel road.
